Letters from the Soul Vol 1.
A Journey in Two Halves is divided into two distinct yet deeply connected parts, each representing a chapter of my life, my work, and the people who have shaped my understanding of strength, vulnerability, and resilience. Together, they reflect a journey not only through my professional experiences, but through the lives and stories of others who trusted me to listen. Growing up surrounded by the Military, I learned early about discipline, sacrifice, and structure. I also learned about loyalty, about silence where words sometimes do not reach, and about the weight carried by unspoken stories. Later in life, I had the honour of working closely with veterans whose lives had been profoundly shaped by service. Many allowed me into their worlds, sharing parts of their past that were difficult, painful, or long buried. For those who gave me permission to shape fragments of their experiences into poetry, I offer my heartfelt gratitude. I do not take lightly the trust placed in me. My hope is that, in translating your words into verse, I have honoured your message, your memory, and your truth. If these poems have helped, even in a small way, to unburden what you carry, then I am truly grateful. To all veterans, thank you for your service, your courage, and for allowing me to walk, even briefly, alongside you on your journey.
The second half of this book follows my professional path, a journey that has taken me into the lives of people from all walks of life. In this space, I have had the privilege of listening to those whose voices are often unheard, individuals navigating hardship, trauma, and systems that do not always see them. Here, I try to speak with people, not for them. These poems are shaped by the truths they shared, the stories they trusted me to witness, and the lessons they taught me simply by allowing me to be present. I have always believed that storytelling, whether through poetry, conversation, or quiet reflection, is one of the most powerful tools for healing and connection. I remain humbled by the people who placed their experiences in my care. You have reminded me that being truly present is sometimes the greatest gift we can offer each other.
This collection contains ten poems, each written with intention and care. Explanations for some of them are provided in the sub tabs, offering insight into what inspired them and the context in which they were written. While the circumstances behind each poem may differ, the heart behind every piece remains the same: to honour real experiences, express truth, and give shape to what is often difficult to say aloud. This book is more than a collection of poetry. It is a journey across landscapes both personal and shared, a tribute to those who serve, those who struggle, and those who speak even when the words are hard to find.
