CHANGED Program Series©

The CHANGED Program Series© is a suite of specialist training program designed for professionals working with veterans and military-connected populations. The series includes cultural competency and best practice training, as well as a structured 12-week clinical intervention program that can be delivered with clients.

It is designed for psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists, social workers, and other mental health professionals working in clinical, community, and support service settings.

The program provides a practical, trauma-informed, and culturally competent framework for understanding military experience and delivering safe, ethical, and effective care.

Training Pathways

1. Cultural Competency & Best Practice Training (2 Days)

This two-day training provides professionals with a foundational understanding of military culture and best practice approaches when working with veterans.

It covers:

  • Military culture and identity
  • Veteran help-seeking behavior and barriers to engagement
  • Trauma-informed and ethical practice
  • Service pathways, transitions, and system navigation
  • Communication, trust-building, and engagement strategies
  • Understanding deployment and reintegration
  • Transition to civilian life
  • Understanding ranks, roles, and military systems

This training strengthens professional understanding and improves confidence and consistency in working with veterans across services.

2. CHANGED Master Program© – Cultural Competency & Intervention Training (3 Days)

This three-day training is the CHANGED Master Program©, combining cultural competency and best practice training with training in the CHANGED 12-week intervention program.

It includes all elements of the 2-day Cultural Competency & Best Practice Training, plus additional training in the CHANGED program delivery.

It covers:

  • Full introduction to military cultural competence and best practice
  • Structured 12-week CHANGED intervention program
  • Deployment, transition, and reintegration impacts
  • Family systems and relational dynamics
  • Clinical formulation, assessment, and treatment planning
  • Session-by-session intervention structure and delivery

This training prepares professionals to confidently deliver the CHANGED program with clients in a structured, trauma-informed, and culturally informed way.

3. Supporting Families of Veterans Training (1 Day)

This one-day training focuses on the unique experiences and needs of families of veterans.

It covers:

  • The impact of military service on families and relationships
  • Reintegration and adjustment challenges
  • Communication and relational dynamics within families
  • Supporting partners, children, and wider family systems
  • Recognizing stress, trauma, and coping responses in family contexts
  • Practical strategies for engagement and support

This training equips professionals to better understand and support the wider family systems surrounding veterans.

4. Understanding Deployment & Reintegration (1 Day)

This one-day training focuses on the psychological, relational, and systemic impacts of deployment and reintegration.

It covers:

  • The lived experience of deployment across military roles
  • Psychological and emotional impacts of operational service
  • Reintegration challenges for individuals and families
  • Identity shifts following deployment
  • Impact on relationships, communication, and functioning
  • Trauma-informed understanding of operational stress

This training supports professionals to build deeper insight into the transition experiences of veterans and their families.

5. Navigating the Transition from Military to Civilian Life (1 Day)

This one-day training focuses on the transition process from military service into civilian life.

It covers:

  • Structural and cultural differences between military and civilian systems
  • Identity transition and loss of military role
  • Employment, education, and service access challenges
  • Barriers to engagement and support systems
  • Adjustment stress and resilience factors
  • Practical approaches to supporting successful transition

This training equips professionals to better support veterans through one of the most critical phases of post-service adjustment.
