The CHANGED Programme
Military Veterans Transitioning to Civilian Life
I developed the CHANGED Programme as a structured and practical development programme specifically to support military veterans, and those preparing for or navigating the transition into civilian life. Military culture fosters strength, discipline, and resilience, while often requiring the suppression of emotion and personal needs. Through this programme there is a space where veterans can unpack experiences, recalibrate stress responses, and rebuild a sense of identity beyond rank and role.
Transitioning from military to civilian life can involve profound shifts: loss of structure, altered camaraderie, changes in purpose, family reintegration challenges, and difficulties translating military skills into civilian contexts. I designed the CHANGED Programme to directly address these realities. Providing practical tools to better understand thought patterns, emotional triggers, and behavioural responses particularly those shaped by operational environments. Through structured reflection and applied strategies, Veterans learn to manage hyper vigilance, stress reactivity, communication difficulties, and role adjustment with greater awareness and control.
A central focus of my programme is restoring autonomy and confidence during periods of uncertainty, assisting veterans in developing skills in emotional regulation, adaptive coping, and constructive problem solving while strengthening self understanding and resilience. All of this supports improved interpersonal relationships, and helps veterans communicate more effectively with partners, families, and colleagues during the transition.
Ultimately, I designed the CHANGED Programme to honour military experience while guiding individuals toward sustainable wellbeing and renewed purpose. My goal is to bridge the gap between service life and civilian identity, empowering veterans to carry forward the strengths developed in uniform while successfully adapting to the next chapter of their lives.
